underGrowth
A collaboration with Dr Tommaso Jucker & Dr Tom Mitchel
Unearthing the intelligence of forest communication networks in a collaboration between sound & science.
underGrowth is a project dedicated to providing new pathways into listening to our natural world; namely forests. Utilising bespoke technology, oak tree seedlings will have their scientific data translated into sound whilst they are experiencing drought.
The goal of the project is not only to give us insight into how forests feel and adapt, but to quantify how much carbon forests are capturing from the atmosphere and how this is affected by extreme climate events.
A combination of precise on-ground measurements of seasonal tree growth with local climate data and remote sensing imagery will be collected from both drones and satellites.
